AN INDEPENDENT SENATOR has told Government it is time to speak to the public about the proposed plasma gasification project by Cahill Energy.

While stating he agreed with the principle of transferring waste to energy, Senator John Watson said there had been sufficient national discussion on the issue to warrant a ministerial statement.

During debate on a resolution relating to the acquisition of land at Vaucluse, St Thomas, yesterday, he said a statement by Government would put to rest rumours about the project, which he admitted to knowing very little about.

“I do not like the idea of speculation. When people don’t know, all sorts of things could be said,” he told his colleagues. (WILLCOMM)
