THE BRIGHT and sunny weather matched the radiant smiles at Heywoods, St Peter, yesterday as four generations celebrated the 100th birthday of Reverend Coswyn Vincent Selwyn Belle.
Children, grandchildren, great-grands, other relatives and friends huddled close to Belle, also a retired headmaster, as Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave shared a toast on his special day.
Although a bit drowsy because it was time for his mid-morning nap, Belle said he was happy that so many people came out to celebrate with him and it was “the Lord’s will” that he was still alive.
The patriarch was described as strict by some. But his daughter, retired psychiatrist Dr Ermine Belle, who is also his primary caretaker, said the retired Anglican cleric was never unkind. (RG)
