SHUTTLERS “A” thrashed sister team Shuttlers “B” to win their first ever David King Memorial Inter Club badminton title on Sunday night at the Wildey Gymnasium.
It was an easy encounter for Shuttlers “A” as they won 3-0 without losing a single game.
Cory Fanus put them on the path to victory when he defeated Kevin Wood 21-12, 21-13 in the men’s singles. There was more domination in the women’s singles as Tamisha Williams defeated Ann-Marie Goddard 21-4, 21-6.
The icing on the cake came when the women’s doubles pair of Williams and Riviera defeated Goddard and Lisa Fields in straight games, 21-15, 21-9.
Pioneers “A”, the 2003 champions, won the third-place play-off by defeating Juniors “A” 3-1.
The highlight for the Juniors came when Amanda Haywood, the reigning Caribbean under-17 girls’ champion, defeated Sabrina Scott 21-9, 21-13 in the women’s singles.
Sabeel Foster won the first game of the men’s singles for Pioneers “A” by beating Nicholas Sobers 23-21, 21-11. Then the men’s doubles pair of Andre Padmore and Jade Browne defeated Sobers and Gavin Robinson 21-15, 21-15.
Shakeria Waithe and Caroline Vaughan sealed the deal for Pioneers “A” when they beat Ashley Robinson and Crystal Clarke 21-14, 21-12 in the women’s doubles. (PG)
