Digicel making it safer

IN ITS CONTINUING EFFORTS to protect customers against increasing cyber threats, Digicel Business Solutions has launched several managed security services in the Barbados market.

Johnny Ingle, chief executive office of Digicel Barbados, explained that their services would provide year-round, 24-hour monitoring, as well as on and off island support to address a variety of threats to the information technology (IT) systems of Barbadian companies.

He said this demonstrated Digicel’s commitment to continuously invest in the Barbados information and communications technology (ICT) market as well as to bring proven technologies to businesses of all sizes.

Martin Keogh, general manager of business solutions, said: “Most companies are particularly vulnerable to risks such as fraud, violation of confidentiality and denial of service attacks, which cause loss of assets, unplanned downtime and, ultimately, a loss of revenue.

“With cyber threats multiplying daily, it is now necessary to have managed security solutions to deal with these issues and complement the organisation’s cyber defence.”

Digicel officials said their managed security services utilised best practices and leaders from the ICT security industry to ensure effective security management across all technology platforms. They also strengthened a company’s IT team and reduced the cost of investment in high end security services, coupled with the added benefit of full-time support from Digicel’s certified experts.

Keogh noted that there was no upfront investment for most of the services, which also offered protection against internal and external threats, allowed access to real time reporting and management, access to a cadre of local and regional experts and easy identification of vulnerabilities on a customer’s network, among other features.

Keogh continued: “In a typical organisation, firewalls and the like generate thousands of logs which the average IT team, working an eight-hour shift, cannot adequately monitor.

“Our solution provides this necessary monitoring, which is critical in developing a robust security programme and allows for better analysis, detection and protection from threats in a real time and, in some cases, proactive manner.” (PR)
