MORE THAN 100 Barbadian men die every year from prostate cancer, recent research has shown.
The figure shows that in spite of improved methods to improve early detection, better testing technology, and increased public awareness, prostate cancer deaths far outnumber death rates associated with breast or cervical cancer in women over the last five years.
President of the Barbados Cancer Society, Dr Dorothy Cooke-Johnson, who researched the information, is very concerned deaths linked to prostate cancer now account for almost one in every four cancer deaths overall.
“When you look at the mortality rate, it is quite worrying. It comes out to 100 deaths every year,” Cooke-Johnson explained in a recent interview.
