Eat your sweet treats, but make sure you brush properly!
That’s the message from Caribbean Smile Makers dental office, who ushered in the Halloween festivities a day early, giving out chocolates to children and even adults outside its Belleville, St Michael location yesterday.
Taking into consideration that children were completely incapable of abstaining from sweets, orthodontist Vidya Armogan distributed toothbrushes as a tactic to indirectly teach the little ones oral hygiene.
“It’s very unusual for a dental office to be giving chocolate; however we are also giving out toothbrushes. . . We can teach them good oral hygiene like brushing” said Armogan.
He said oral hygiene was critical and showcases, lectures and screening could be impactful but reckoned that his method was a brilliant idea to interact with children while educating them.
He added that with the depressed economy businesses needed to find ways to give back to the communities and since Halloween was becoming a bigger event in Barbados they thought they would get on board to touch the community.
