THE FIGHT for the national senior chess championship is going right down to the wire.
Four players are battling to win the title ahead of tonight’s final round of games at the Bridgetown Chess Centre in Cavans Lane, The City.
Defending champion and tournament leader Yu Tien Poon slipped up after crashing to his first defeat of the competition against Kemp Lynch in the tenth and penultimate round of matches on Tuesday night.
FIDE master Poon, the recently crowned Under-20 and blitz champion, sits at the top of the standings on eight and a half points, a mere half point ahead of Lynch and International master Delisle Warner, who completed a seventh successive win after beating Nitin Mahtani.
