MEDICAL STUDENTS at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus can expect some ease in landing internships.

The recently retired Dean of the Faculty of Medical Science at the Cave Hill Campus, Professor Joseph Michael Branday told MIDWEEK NATION there were more internship posts being made available such as those which have been accredited in St Lucia, Antigua and the Cayman islands.

He said that while limited availability of internships could continue to present a challenge for medical students in Barbados, he was confident that the problem will “work itself out”, even if it meant students must gain experience outside of the region.

“People have to recognise it’s not business as usual. You can’ just graduate and expect to fall into a job like how it used to be…” (LT)
