No holding back in karate tourney

A KARATE CRAZE hit the gymnasium of the Barbados Community College last week Saturday night at the first Kyokushinkai Karate International Open Tournament.

The tournament fit the chorus of the Carl Douglas 1974 smash hit line for line, as kicks were indeed fast as lightning.

Starting with the opening bout between Barbados Academy of Martial Arts’ 12-year-old Anderson Doughlin and nine-year-old Joshua Dubarry of Mexico, “oohs and aahs” could be heard from the spectators who watched the combatants exchange blows.

There was no age nor weight barrier as fighters from both ends of the spectrum fully participated in the bouts.
