USING THE cunning of Sisyphus and the might of Hercules, Barbados’ best road tennis player Mark “Venom” Griffith stared down “death” for the second time in less than a week and emerged victorious.
One night after capturing $10 000 in the Monarchs Of The Court, Griffith turned out for the Silver Hill championship to once again battle his new nemesis Darius “Baraccus” Gaskin, who had also held Griffith in a stranglehold in the semi-finals of the Monarchs.
With Gaskin wielding his racquet like a mythical flaming sword, the young warrior held Griffith 21-19, 10-4 and seemed ready to dump the hero into road tennis Hades.
However, just like Sisyphus and Hercules, who cheated death repeatedly, Griffith achieved the unexpected taking an absorbing battle 19-21, 21-13, 21-19.
