THE NUMBER OF Barbadians who opted to visit HMP Dodds for its open day surprised organisers.
As part of Prison Week, the institution opened its gates to the public and invited people to tour, get a massage, eat some homemade healthy foods, get medical check-ups and more.
Coordinator Sophia Sandiford said the response was “overwhelming”.
“So far we’ve seen a lot of people coming through as we have tours and such. We have a number of new activities such as spa services, HIV testing, X rays and Body Mass Index tests. The theme is Restoring and Strengthening Family Linkages so we want to have a strong family foundation and we thought we would bring more things to make people more comfortable,” she said.
The rest of the week will include a cricket match – the Prison Service vs the Barbados Defence Force; netball; the superintendent’s parade and a family fun day. (CA)
