St James South beat St Philip North in Thompson Classic

The rains on Friday night held up enough to allow St James South to record a 2-1 victory over St Philip North at Hilda Skeene in a first round match of the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic.

Dayo Ward scored for St James South in the 61st minute while the other was an own goal attributed to St Philip North’s Glendon Williams in the 45th minute. Dario Blackman had put St Philip North in the lead in the 43rd minute.

As early as the tenth minute of play the boys from the east had a chance to go ahead but the referee disallowed a goal because of a hand ball. Just minutes later St Philip North could again have gone ahead via a free kick but the ball just curved to the left of the bar.
