BARBADOS joined its Spanish and Portuguese-speaking allies in mourning the 1976 Cubana Airlines tragedy.
Members of Parliament as well as the ambassadors of Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela and Brazil stood in solidarity next to members of the Cuban Barbadian Friendship Association; the Clement Payne Movement and concerned members of the public as they remembered the 68 passengers and five crew aboard the plane who died after it was bombed off the coast of Barbados.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Stephen Lashley pledged Barbados’ commitment to stand with Cuba against acts of terrorism and injustice while Cuban ambassador Francisco Fernandez Peña reiterated his country’s call for justice against alleged former CIA agent Luis Posada Carriles, the man he said was the mastermind behind the attack, but who was “walking free” today.
