BARBADOS’ senior women’s hockey team have made a blazing start to the Pan American Challenge in Chiclayo, Peru, with two emphatic victories in their first two matches.

Buoyed by a whopping 10-0 thrashing of Panama on Sunday in their opening match, the Bajan girls, led by a brace from the experienced Patrina “Pixie” Brathwaite, registered another lopsided victory, blanking Puerto Rico 5-0 yesterday.

Brathwaite opened the scoring for Barbados with a hasty field goal in just the sixth minute of the match. Three minutes later, young international debutante Jada Prescod netted her first international goal for Barbados in just her second match.

The second period of the match saw no goals from either side. Barbados kept on pressing ahead and in the 37th minute, power forward Keisha Boyce, wife of the National men’s team captain Andre Boyce, slotted home her second goal of the tournament to give Barbados a 3-0 lead heading into the final quarter.
