Sea egg harvest a ‘25-year setback’

CHARLES INNISS KNOWS the sea like the back of his hand and can easily boast of this in the little fishing village at Conset Bay in St John. 

A fisherman for over 30 years, he is one of the divers contracted by the Fisheries Division to survey the ocean’s floor to determine if sea eggs have fully ripened to allow for the season to open and allow other divers to harvest this treasured Bajan delicacy.

Inniss’ designated area is the coast, which stretches from Ragged Point to Crane in St Philip. These surveys are conducted in July of each year.
