Generous Joshua reaches triple digits

MUCH LIKE JOSHUA fighting the Battle of Jericho in biblical times, one of Barbados’ newest centenarians Joshua Stanley Weekes has fought his way into triple digits.

A visually impaired Weekes was celebrated Tuesday by family members and staff of the Geriatric Hospitalon Beckles Road, St Michael, where he is a resident.

Shirlene Williams, a nurse of Ward 4B who helps to care for the centenarian, said Weekes, though frequently quiet, would sometimes talk a lot when hewas in the mood.

The former Ministry of Transport and Works employee has a hearty appetite, particularly for rice, said his nurse. However, apart from difficulty withhis sight, the birthday boy was in fairly good health.
