Empire, Blackbirds rule the roost

IT RAINED goals at the UWI Hockey Turf when the Barbados Hockey Federation’s Hockey 7s League continued on Sunday.

Victories were recorded for both Massy United Insurance Empire and the UWI Blackbirds over Avengers and the YMCA, respectively, in Super League action.

Leaders Empire came from behind twice to dispatch Avengers 6-3 in front of the sparse crowd on hand. Empire, fielding a highly depleted team, were behind in the first minute when Che Roach scored.

Parity was restored immediately when Che Warner easily beat Avengers goalkeeper Diego Thompson within one minute. Empire took the lead when the youthful Peter Alleyne (22nd minute) finished off a sweeping move for the Bank Hall team.
