THE WEST INDIES Cricket Board has suspended head coach Phil Simmons for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
The WICB said the move was in response to comments made in the print and electronic media “which appear to question the legitimacy of the selection process of the One-day International squad for the tour of Sri Lanka”.
On Friday, Simmons charged that the omission of key players from the fitness testing which preceded the week-long training camp at the 3Ws Oval was a clear indication they would be severely weakened in the limited overs series.
In a release issued today the board said Simmons will not travel with the team and an investigation will be conducted.
In the meantime, coaching responsibilities will pass to Eldine Baptiste, a member of the WICB selection panel.
Baptiste was already a member of the original tour party to Sri Lanka as the “selector-on-tour”. (PR/NB)
