In Barbados, there is no designated squad to investigate these vicious crimes.
Former magistrate Faith Marshall-Harris wants that to change fast. This is her story.
Marshall-Harris, chairman of the National Committee Monitoring the Rights of the Child, wants the Royal Barbados Police Force to have its own Special Victims Unit (SVU), comprising investigators investigating only alleged cases of child abuse in Barbados.
According to Marshall-Harris, such a unit would allow police to prioritise cases of child abuse, and clear neighourhoods of predators or persons abusing children at home. (BA)
