Crop Over Festival has been ranked as one of the top 30 carnivals in the world by a United States-based research company.

24/7 Wall Street, a New York-based research firm which covers finance, industry, manufacturing, travel, investing and marketing recently prepared a list of the globe’s leading carnivals and rated Crop Over 27th.

“Crop Over in Barbados that was traditionally held to celebrate the end of the sugar cane season, but since the ‘70s has become the largest music and cultural festival on the island,” explained 24/7 Wall Street.

“Highlights are the Foreday Mornin’ Jam where participants paint their bodies and dance until dawn, and Grand Kadooment Day, the final celebration parade, decked out dancers and music trucks,” the journal stated.

The festival officially opens today in Speightstown, St Peter when the First Citizens Crop Over Launch And Ceremonial Delivery Of The Last Canes from 2 p.m. The National Cultural Foundation (NCF), the organisers of the festival, has called on Barbadians to wear bright festive colours every Friday for the season, as well as for businesses to decorate their offices.
