CENTRAL BANK WORKERS are back on the job and the temporary appointment which caused their protest action has been rescinded.
Since Monday the union had requested a number of issues affecting protesting workers to be resolved, the most pressing being the Bank’s failure to follow correct procedure when recruiting an intern to the post of “extra assistant” on September 1.
BWU general secretary Toni Moore emphasised that the industrial action was not an attack on the employee, but was a stand against the Central Bank’s failure to engage the union in the appropriate manner.
Just after 10 a.m. today, Moore received written correspondence which confirmed that the position was withdrawn and proposed a meeting with the Bank at the soonest convenient date for both parties.
The scores of workers that had assembled in the courtyard for a fifth day picked up their chairs and went back to their work stations shortly after.
Moore said that the workers were happy to return to work and would have wanted to do so sooner. (LT)
