SCORES OF WORKERS at the Central Bank stopped work yesterday morning over unresolved grievances and vowed not to return until they were addressed.
The “straw that broke the camel’s back” was the promotion of an intern from a $1 200 job to a $4 000 job, said Noel Reece, the president of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) division at the Bank.
“Nobody is willing to get up from his or her desk to come and speak to the union on matters which are impacting the staff to the point that they had to withdraw their labour,” added Dwain Paul, a deputy general secretary of the BWU.
The workers, numbering more than 60, ranged from gardeners to economists. (LT)
