IT WASN’T HOT in the kitchen yesterday.
But workers at the School Meals Department in Lancaster, St James will have to move house today in order to facilitate lunches to schools in the north.
On Monday, more than 20 employees stopped working because of the intense heat, forcing a meeting between workers, the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and acting Minister of Education, Senator Lucille Moe.
Lancaster’s 6 a.m. shift only did bread lunches yesterday, which allowed them to escape any heat which could have materialised in the kitchen due to faulty equipment. However, with cooked lunches on the menu today, more workers will now have to complete their shifts at the School Meals’ Country Road, St Michael headquarters. (BA)
