St Joseph’s lies abandoned, awaits financing

THE BATTERED “St Joseph Hospital” sign barely hints at the state of a hospital still in wait of revival.

Hidden by overgrown bushes and fallen trees, the Ashton hall St Peter facility stands in a dilapidated and abandoned condition telling of a structure desperately waiting for new life to be breathed into it for almost 20 years now.

Beyond the ruins of the canopy where ambulances and cars used to traverse, long corridors are scattered with wooden debris and broken glass and ceilings now reveal hidden wires and other fittings dangling from above.

Wooden doors leading to patient rooms are now seconds away from disintegrating whilst loads of foam among the debris in one room is the only sign that mattresses occupied rooms, providing comfort for patients.
