White Oak the right choice

Government is standing behind its decision to acquire the services of financial advisers White Oak.

During the Barbados Labour Party’s public meeting at Carlisle Car Park in the City on Sunday night, Attorney General Dale Marshall defended the payment of US $27 million to the international firm.

He said while that fee appeared to be high, they were saving Barbados $1 billion annually.

“We recognised that our situation was so grave. . . that we had to find the finest skills that money could buy to help to resurrect this country and White Oak was it.

“. . . Your Government is about solutions and we are proud of the solutions we make and we will make them again tomorrow if we had to, but with the help of God we will never have to make those decisions again,” Marshall told the hundreds of BLP supporters.

The White Oaks contract has received criticism from the Democratic Labour Party and the United Progressive Party.

Marshall also said White Oak had written to both former prime minister Freundel Stuart and minister of finance Chris Sinckler, offering its services to help Barbados fight its rising debts several years ago. (TG)
