NIASHA GREENIDGE is not the average four-year-old.
Unlike other children her age, she cannot go outdoors to run and play. The little girl, who celebrates her fifth birthday this month, has transposition of the great arteries (TGA), a rare heart condition which usually occurs at birth.
This congenital defect changes the way blood circulates throughout the body, leaving a shortage of oxygen in blood flowing from the heart to the rest of the body. Without an adequate supply of oxygen-rich blood, the body cannot function properly.
