Eleven people were successfully rescued today after unstable land at White Hill, St Andrew, slipped away.

A co-ordinated effort by the Barbados Fire Service, the Barbados Defence Force and the Emergency Ambulance Service ensured all of those affected were safely brought to higher ground and treated.

That was the scenario which confronted the three emergency services just before 8 a.m. today at a simulation exercise in the rural parish.

The first call went to the Fire Service, which in turn contacted the other groups to provide support.

An officer at the scene told Nation Online they were also graded on timeliness, use of equipment and team management. The exercises help the teams prepare in case such events occur.

A second simulation was held at Earth Station, Bath Hill, St John. (SAT)
