Past and present police officers gathered at the Orange Hill Church of God this morning to pay their final respects to former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Seymour Cumberbatch.
The 40-year veteran, who retired two years ago, passed away on May 17 at the age of 69.
Tributes were paid by his son Dwayne Cumberbatch, a former police officer, who described his father as a devoted family man, full of love and determination.
In the eulogy, former Commissioner of Police, Darwin Dottin said Cumberbatch was a hard-working and dedicated police officer.
He said Cumberbatch spent several years leading the force’s crime fighting units and was involved in several high profile cases.
Among those present were Deputy Commissioner of Police Erwin Boyce, Assistant Commissioners Oral Williams and Sylvester Louis, and Cumberbatch’s attorney-at-law Ralph Thorne Q.C., who represented him just before he retired when he brought a lawsuit against the Police Services Commission for not appointing him Deputy Commissioner.
The interment took place at St James Cemetery. (MB)
