HURRICANE DANNY’S MAXIMUM sustained winds have increased to near 80 miles per hour (130 kilometres per hour) with higher gusts.

While the National Hurricane Center has forecast some additional strengthening during the next 24 hours, a weakening trend is expected to begin after that.

At 5 p.m. the centre of the small eye of the system was located near latitude 13.0 degrees north, longitude 45.7 degrees west.

It was about 1 030 miles (1 655km) east of the Windward Islands.

Danny is moving toward the west-northwest at near 10 mph (17km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue into Saturday.

Danny is a very small tropical cyclone. Hurricane-force winds only extend outward up to 10 miles (20 km) from the centre and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 990 mb (29.24 inches). (NB)
