Dust blowing away business sales

AS THE $12 million water and sanitation system upgrade continues along Roebuck Street in Bridgetown, some business owners are complaining that it is affecting their sales.

When the Daily Nation visited the area yesterday afternoon, just a few people were entering the stores as the Barbados Water Authority’s (BWA) work halted traffic in the area, which is dug up and has heavy equipment and pipes along the street.

Pedestrians and shoppers complained about the dust from the roadwork, calling it a potential health hazard.

Sales assistant at the Ruff and Tuff Remix Boutique, known as “Sexy Ras”, said: “It sad, it really really bad. We only made two sales this week.”

She added that when she heard about the roadwork from her boss, she did not expect it would negatively affect sales.
