THERE IS NO DOUBT that the 2015 edition of the Crop Over Festival was a “well executed” and successful one, says Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Cultural Foundation Wayne Webster.
On Saturday night he told guests at the annual Crop Over Awards Ceremony at Hilton Barbados that there was “strong empirical evidence” to suggest that the success “represents the most productive three-month period of economic activity” in Barbados annually.
“We have often heard the view posited that Crop Over contributes in excess of $100 million in economic activity and that the festival directly impacts every productive sector in Barbados. If you are still in doubt that that is so I urge you to ponder for a moment the following facts.
“Leading up to the last three weeks of the Crop Over Festival the airline industry reported that there were no available seats into Barbados from North America . . . and several Caribbean destinations. It was reported that in the hotel sector that there were no available rooms, that in the car rental sector there were no cars available for hire,” he said. (Green Bananas Media)
