Two quakes off Barbados this afternoon

TWO EARTHQUAKES OCCURRED to the north-east of Barbados today, according to reports from the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre.

The first one, which had a magnitude of 4.6, occurred at 2:21 p.m. 234 kilometres off Bridgetown and 350 kilometres east of Castries, St Lucia at a depth of 110 kilometres.

It was followed by a quake of 4.5 magnitude at 3:10 p.m. This one was located 121 kilometres to the north-east of Bridgetown and 240 kilometres east of Castries.

On Wednesday, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake occurred 141 kilometres to the north-east of Barbados. It had a depth of 72 kilometres.

The centre said these quakes could be aftershocks of the 6.4 magnitude quake which occurred on July 16. (NB)
