Red Boyz sweet on melodic tunes

DE RED BOYZ stepped out from behind the scenes to share in the success of this year’s Starcom Network People’s Monarch.

Red Plastic Bag directed much of his success to the dynamic duo who produced his hit song Spontaneous for which he was presented $15 001 yesterday at Cave Shepherd, Broad Street.

From Biggie Irie‘s winning 2014 Sweet Soca hit Pankatang, to this year’s All Inclusive by iWeb and even regional artistes like Maxi Priest and Anthony B, Mikey Hulsmeier and Scott Galt have worked with a diverse group of artistes to produce outstanding music.

However, the “lucky” and talented producers, see themselves gravitating towards Trinidadian soca especially.

“I think Barbados went through a bashment phase which really and truly is not what we are strong at, not what we like. “What has really sustained us over the years is more carnival music, Trinidadian soca . . . . I think their love for melody is very strong and plays right into our hands,” explained Hulsmeier.

His work partner expressed a similar sentiment while revealing their upcoming plans. “We believe a lot of the work is going to go down to Trinidad because after producing for carnival for so many years we kind of have an idea of what Trinis like and for sure we could see at least five to eight Barbados songs doing very well in Trinidad.”

Working with well-known artistes might be no coincidence. Scott Galt said that they were known for being hard-working and that attracts those who are serious about music.

“People know that we’re serious. So I don’t know if it’s this reputation that we have but people know ‘man look de Red Boyz don’t play'”.

He also asserted that they don’t see themselves in competition with other producers but was critical of poor work ethic.

“A lot of people just want to do something half-way and throw it out on the radio. That doesn’t really cut it. You have to really put your all into it,” he said.
