BARBADIANS AND CHINESE RESIDENTS residents came together recently for a summer party that represented a fusion of cultures. Hostess, Chinese Ambassador Wang Ke invited Barbadian families to join Chinese families for an evening of food, drink and music representative of the two countries. Guests sipped Jasmine tea, dined on roast pork, Bajan stuffing, Chinese spring rolls and China black edible fungus.
The seaside location of Almond Bay Caterers at Hastings, Christ Church, was the perfect setting for what the Ambassador explained was a common event in her homeland at this time of the year. “We come to the end of a long period of hard work and we have a party. So I thought we should do the same thing in Barbados and invite our Barbadian friends and families,” Wang Ke said.
She also used the occasion to highlight the favourable bilateral relationship between China and Barbados, while saying farewell to outgoing Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, Wu Gang Chen, and welcoming his successor Zhang Xiu and his wife.
