VINCENT LAYNE’s heart bore many burdens, some of his closest friends believed.
While pondering the discovery of his body yesterday in his white Mercedes Benz car that was found parked in a cart road at Bushy Park, St Philip, many said that Layne, a prominent sheep farmer, inventor and carpenter, was tormented by many things, including the death of his two sons Neil, 15, and Kirt, nine, 20 years ago – a tragedy he never got over.
Not only was the August 31 anniversary of their death approaching, but Layne, 66, had also given up in frustration the sheep farming career that was so dear to his heart, as well as his hobby of building benches and desks for primary schools.
A close friend also disclosed that he was battling a serious illness “which had slowed him down tremendously”.
