WHOEVER IMPRESSED THE JUDGES with rendition would be taking away the MQI Pic-O-De-Crop Calypso Monarch title based on the first half of the competition last night at Kensington Oval.
The evening started with Edwin Yearwood, the 2015 Sweet soca king, doing Party Ah De Year and he had the crowd so gripped they did not “feel like leaving”. It was good to hear the expression Crop Over in his delivery, reminding the growing thousands that there is a local festival that has pull.
It was at 8:26 p.m. that emcee Mac Fingall announced Hee Haw and with a skit that reflected the inconsistency that obtains in the man and woman relationship when the man finds himself at the other side of domestic violence, Hee Haw proceeded to capture the hearts of the judges with Respect De Man. Hee Haw was powerful with his opening number. It was a flawless performance which set a high standard for those coming after him.
Adrian Clarke, using a blitz of former calypsonians both local and regional to introduce his new song Real Kaiso, poked fun at his colleagues and radio personality Admiral as he sang “kaiso is filled with extempo not karaoke”.
