WHEN SCHOOL begins in September, the students of Good Shepherd Primary in Fitts Village, St James will be returning to a brand new looking building.
This is thanks to visiting United States Army cadets, who started repainting the school yesterday and are expected to finish tomorrow.
Professor of military science, Lieutenant Colonel Michael Ivy, said the 22 cadets were taken from colleges across the US and were here in Barbados as part of a programme within the Army Reserve Training Corp.
“We send cadets to more than 60 countries around the world where they do things such as teach English as a second language and community service projects like this one. We have been working with the Barbados Defence Force which has been tremendous in gathering resources and training. Both the BDF and the Barbadian community have been welcoming and the cadets have been very vocal about how they have enjoyed the experience,” he said.
