Beckles seventh in Pan Am final

HURDLER KIERRE BECKLES finished seventh in the women’s 100 metre hurdles at the Pan American Games last night in Toronto.

Beckles clocked 13.24 seconds while the United States’ Queen Harrison won in a new Pan American record of 12.52 seconds. This smashed the previous best of 12.65 seconds set by Jamaica’s Delloreen Ennis-London in 2007.

Tenaya Jones of the United States was second in 12.84 seconds while Canada’s Nikkita Holder was third in a season’s best 12.85 seconds.

Akela Jones competed in the heats and did 13.10 seconds (wind +2.6).

Sonia Gaskin finished seventh in her heat of the women’s 800 metres in 2 minutes 09.01 seconds and did not reach the final. 

Today Ramon Gittens and Levi Cadogan will run in the men’s 100 metre semi-finals while Jones will try her luck in the women’s high jump. (FP)
