BRACE YOURSELF. There might be aftershocks. But, said the acting Director of the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Kerry Hinds, there is no threat of the island being inundated by a tsunami.
The warning came from Hinds who was speaking after the island experienced four quakes, ranging from 5.6 to 6.4 in magnitude on the Richter Scale off the north-east of Barbados, in the space of four hours, with the last three coming in quick succession just before midday.
The most severe quake and the one felt by the majority of the island, was of 6.4 magnitude at 11:16 a.m. and was followed by one at 11:29 a.m. (4.1) and at 11:36 a.m. (5.3).
