King and Lewis beaten in Pan Am semis

BARBADOS’ BID TO enter its first ever Pan Am Games tennis final ended yesterday when Darian King and Haydn Lewis were beaten in the semi-finals of the men’s doubles.

The pair fought valiantly against Argentina’s Guido Andreozzi and Facundo Bagnis 6-3, 4-6, [10-8]. They will now face Ecuador’s Gonzalo Escobar and Emilio Gomez Estrada in the bronze medal match.

Alex Sobers finished seventh in the third heat of the Men’s 100 metre freestyle in 52.92 seconds. Cristian Quintero won that heat in 49.07 seconds with Matheus Santana of Brazil second in 49.52 seconds. Brett Fraser of the Cayman Islands was third in that heat in 49.58 seconds.

Today Sobers and Christopher Courtis will compete in the men’s 200 metre freestyle while Lani Cabrera will be in the heats of the women’s equivalent. (PG)
