Free haul

ONE WASTE HAULER is willing to collect for free some of the trash piling up because of the strike by Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) workers.

However, said Anderson Cherry, of major waste haulers Jose Y Jose, the Government must first waive the $25 per tonne tipping fee instituted recently.

Cherry told the MIDWEEK NATION that the free collection offer would be restricted to the essential services such as fire stations, hospital, polyclinics and police stations. And, he said, the contentious tipping fee would have to be put on hold at this stage.

“We would move the garbage for free because we don’t want it to remain outside polyclinics and become a threat to health care, but we need them to remove the tipping fee first,” said Cherry.
