THERE IS STANDING room only at the National Union of Public Workers’ Dalkeith, St Michael headquarters where hundreds of members have gathered for a meeting.
Before the main event which started at 2 p.m., president Akanni McDowall met with Customs workers over the issuance of option forms to join the Barbados Revenue Authority.
Acting general secretary Roslyn Smith said this was a sign of disrespect as the union had an agreement that those forms would not be issued until all matters had been ventilated.
McDowall said the meeting was to garner as much support as possible for the cause of Customs, Sanitation Service Authority and Barbados Investment and Development Corporation workers.
He warned again that the island was headed towards a national shutdown should “we not get what we want”. (CA)
