Ongoing delays with NIS cheques

IF YOU’RE ONE of the scores of Barbadians waiting to receive a benefit payment from the National Insurance Scheme, you’ll have to wait a little longer.

That’s because they’re still fixing the faults in their upgraded computer system.

And though acting NIS director Jennifer Hunte did not say when the issue would be resolved, she apologised for the inconvenience and said the situation was being diligently worked on.

Hunte explained the NIS upgraded its computer system on a phased basis from January to March this year. Arising from the upgrade, the office encountered a number of unanticipated challenges mainly in the areas of system speed and performance, data migration and electronic claims creation. This resulted in delays in the processing of claims. (SP)
