Police called in for SSA protesters

TEMPERS FLARED AND emotions ran high at the Sanitation Service Authority’s (SSA) Wildey depot yesterday morning after police were called in to remove workers who were reportedly blocking the gates.

President of the  shop stewards at SSA Hugh Smith said the strike action continued as directed by the union, which meant there were to be no garbage collections and burials at public cemeteries by SSA employees.

However, he said trucks from the National Conservation Commission (NCC), another Government agency, turned up at the depot to be fuelled but were told it was closed.
