Sir Garry tournament gets underway

THERE WERE MIXED RESULTS for local teams as the 29th edition of the Annual Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools’ Cricket Tournament got underway at various venues yesterday.

In an all local clash, St Leonard’s Boys’ defeated Combermere by six wickets and Hamilton Lashley Foundation beat Dominica by 76 runs.

In another all-local clash, Harrison College beat Queen’s College by eight wickets and BCL beat Oakville Cricket Academy by 86 runs.

The Lodge School and Foundation School both had first round defeats.

Zone A

At Crab Hill: Combermere School 122 in 31 overs (Hasani Newton 39, Joshua Cooke 22, Muhammed Lokhat 17, Tremaine Edwards 10; Camarie Boyce 3-18, Shakeel Turney 3-32, Deswin Currency 2-22). St Leonard’s Boys 123-4 in 20.4 overs (Jamar Ifill 54 not out, Zavic Trotman 29, Deswin Currency 18). St Leonard’s Boys won by six wickets.

At Pine Basin: Fatima 178-5 in 34 overs (Sean Persaud 46, Joshua Araugo-Wilson 29, Wendell George 23 not out, Jean-Paul Rocke 18, Donovan Clayton 13; Kyle Khan 2-39). Presentation College 121-7 in 34 overs (Kristoff Lewis 26, Sachin Sooker 23, Gyasi Cuffie 23, Kamal Hamza 16; Donovan Clayton 3-35, Anand Lochan 2-18). Fatima won by 56 runs

At James Bryan: Foundation School 171-9 in 35 overs (Daryl Husbands 69, Jermaine Davis 31, Akeem Evelyn 22, Shomari Gibson 13; Patrick Phillips 3-21, Steven Croft 2-40). Sedburgh  174-9 in 35 overs (Max Silvester 51, Steven Croft 24, James Park-Johnson 20, Patrick Phillips 11, Sam Barrett 10; Akeem Walrond 3-32, Shaquon Carrington 3-36). Sedburgh won by one wicket off the last ball.

At Content: Solihull 133 all out (28.4) (Benjamin Watson 24, Fahd Janjua 20, Will Rigg 15, Anthony Szarmach 13, Thomas Searle 11, James Newman 10; Rickash Boodram 6-23, Carl Vialva 2-25). 

Vishnu Boys’ 134-3 in 30.4 overs (Akeel Mohammed 39, Matthius Phillip 24, Carl Vialva 18 n.o., Nickyle Sadhoo 17n.o.; Ricard Bradley 3-47). Vishnu Boys’ won by seven wickets.

Zone B

At Gall Hill: Hamilton Lashley Foundation 249-8 in 36 overs (Kevin Evelyn 92, Paulanderson Fields 38, Shevon Brooks 20; Jervon Rafael 3-39, Kassim Peltier 2-38). Dominica 173 in 32.3 overs (Melvin Defoe 46,Terrel Toussaint 37; Glenroy 3-23, Andre Skeete 2-23, Jadan Jones 2-33, Micah Thornhill 2-46). Hamilton Lashley Foundation won by 76 runs

At Inch Marlow: BCL 217-9 in 38 overs (Sylvester Moore 68, Zidane Harewood 46, Reco Hurley 29, Kevon Connell 20, Romario Skeete 14; Danniel Griffiths 3-27, Marcus Kandu 2-28, William Thomas 2-42, Faisal Jamkhandi 2-44). Oakville Cricket Academy 131 in 28.1 overs (Neil Johnson 36, Wishal Ram 24, Bryan Browne 19; Javed leacock 5-22, Romario Brathwaite 2-30). BCL won by 86 runs.

At Greens: The Lodge School 104-8 in 30 overs (Janmali Lynch 28, Josiah Stephen-Nelson 16, Kaliel Marshall 12; Jason Batson 2-19). Queen’s Park 107-5 in 17.5 overs (Jason Batson 37 not out, Joshua DaSilva 23 not out, Karris Romain 19;Jamani Drakes 2-19, Nicholas Benn 2-29). Queen’s Park Cricket Club won by five wickets. 

 At Friendship: Queen’s College 115  in 32.1 overs (Zaheer Griffith 28, Mark Cyrus 12, Javier Waterman 11, Joshua Burton 10; Zion Hill 3-17, Zachary Nowell 2-28). Harrison College 116-2 in 27.1 overs (Brandon Sealy 48 not out, Jonlhi Jordan 33, Tre Mason 10). Harrison College won by eight wickets.
