IT TOOK a boundary off the final delivery of the match by captain Kyle Hope for ESAF Pickwick to snatch a place in the final of the Sagicor General Twenty20 Championship from last year’s losing finalists CounterPoint Wanderers in a nerve-racking second semi-final between the country’s two oldest clubs, at Kensington Oval Wednesday night.
The low-scoring encounter produced merely 203 runs from 40 overs but went right down to the wire, with Pickwick reaching 103 for seven in reply to Wanderers’ modest 100 for nine.
Pickwick entered the final over requiring four runs to retain their unbeaten status in this year’s competition after Hope and experienced fast bowler Zahir Motara had revived the chase with a 24-run partnership for the seventh wicket. This followed a dramatic mid-innings slump in which four wickets tumbled for three runs in the space of five balls to leave Pickwick tottering on 75 for six.
