AFEERA GREENIDGE went to sleep Monday night as normal, but on Tuesday she was faced with the loss of just about everything she owned.

A near-midnight fire awakened Greenidge and her six tenants, sending them scampering for safety as the stone house they all called home in Diamond Valley, St Philip, was engulfed and gutted.

“Around midnight, I hear her [tenant Millicent Conliffe] hollering fire and when I look, all below was fire and I just grab a handbag and run out the house,” she told the DAILY NATION as she, along with a few tenants and a friend, sat outside the ruined building contemplating their next move.
