PROFESSIONALS may also have to produce evidence of payment of contributions to the National Insurance Department, similar to how they will have to produce tax clearance certificates from the Barbados Revenue Authority to renew their licences.
“Those professionals need to show that they are compliant with National Insurance payments,” said Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer, who on Monday disclosed there were proposals before Cabinet for the national insurance measure.
She also said she had taken a proposal to Cabinet for improvement of the mechanism of collecting monies owed to the National Insurance Scheme (NIS), which she said had “a big problem” collecting arrears estimated to be “in the millions”.
