SAM MITCHELL was expected to impress the region.
Turns out it’s the other way around.
The former NBA player and one-time head coach admits he was pleasantly surprised by the level of talent in the Caribbean, having described the players as “very good” after leading the United States Virgin Islands to the Caribbean Basketball Confederation Championships title.
“It’s clear they’re some very good basketball players all over the world,” revealed the 51-year-old American, who currently serves as an assistant on the Minnesota Timberwolves bench.
“America is not where all the players are now as the game is a worldwide game and they’re some really, really, really special players that play down in these islands,” he added.
