THE SIDESHOW of the National Championships on Saturday provided a big upset.
CARIFTA starlet and Austin Sealy Trophy awardee, Mary Fraser, was beaten into second spot by her cousin Elizabeth Williams in the women’s 1 500 metres open at the National Stadium.
Fraser, who has reportedly not run competitively on track since her successful CARIFTA voyage in March, looked short of race fitness and form and was edged on the line by Williams of Elite Distance, who clocked 4.42.81 minutes. Fraser, running unattached, finished the journey in 4.42.86 minutes. Akeilia Knight, another unattached athlete, was third in 4.54.20.
